CLX96 undergoes successful sea trials

CL Yachts has announced impressive results during the first sea trials of its pioneering new flagship CLX96.

CL Yachts has reported that its flagship CLX96 impressed during sea trials in January, reaching between 24-25 knots at full-load condition with weights simulating a tender and owners gear. The 96ft 9in motor yacht also performed well during tight manoeuvres.

Martin Lo, Director of CL Yachts, said: “Our captain reported that the boat handled well and was very responsive to the helm. Two thrusters at the bow and stern provided a much higher level of confidence when docking.

“CLX96 operates smoothly throughout her RPM range. Thanks to her stabilisation options, including a Quick MC56 gyro stabiliser and Sleipner Side-Power fins, she is very steady in a seaway as well.”

CLX96 features an exterior and interior by industrial designer Jozeph Forakis, as CL Yachts sought an outsider’s view to challenge conventional design. Its distinctive profile includes reverse-angle windscreens on the main and upper decks, as well as the aft end of the main-deck superstructure.

The yacht features only one helm, in the enclosed skylounge, outdoor social areas forward on the upper and main decks, a flexible, extendable beach club, and four lower-deck guest cabins.

“CLX96 is a concerted effort to mark the real deal behind our brand,” Lo said. “We wanted a fresh approach to the norm, and we did that by allowing Jozeph the freedom to create something different and unique, while holding true to our core values of quality, innovation and uncompromising seaworthiness.”

CLX96 is currently out of the water for final fitting. More sea trials will be conducted prior to the yacht’s Asia debut in Hong Kong this spring, while its world premiere is scheduled for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show from October 26-30.
